| The Friendship Foundation for International Students (FFIS) works closely with International Affairs at the UO to welcome new international students and scholars to the University of Oregon, and provide opportunities for friendship and support!
New Member Orientation Membership to the Friendship Foundation is free, but a personal orientation is required. Friendship Foundation Programs:
1. Short-Term Homestay:
Members of the Eugene-Springfield community open their hearts and homes to new incoming international students each fall for 4 days prior to the International Student Orientation. FFIS members enjoy learning about other cultures and sharing a bit of themselves with students from around the world. Open to new international students beginning fall term. 2. Conversation Friend Program:
This program matches international students/scholars with a volunteer family, couple or individual for one hour of English conversation each week. Open to international students, scholars and spouses who have been at the UO less than two years. Click here for more information on the Conversation Friend Program.
3. Community/International Friend Program:
This program matches international students & scholars with a family, couple or individual for hospitality and friendship. There is no time commitment, although we do recommend monthly get-togethers or activites. Open to international students, scholars and spouses. 4. Share Thanksgiving:
Members of the Eugene-Springfield community open their homes on Thanksgiving Day to international students, scholars and their families.
Volunteers: Sign up here to host an international student for a Thanksgiving meal.
Students: Sign-up here to share a Thanksgiving meal with a member of the community. Deadline is November 15th.
For Community Members:
We invite local community members to become involved by hosting and befriending UO international students, scholars and their spouses. Check out the General Information links below, then fill out a New Member Application form and send it in. We will contact you about attending a new member orientation, afterwhich we will match you up with an international student!
