Activities for International Students and Scholars
Welcome Picnic
As part of the UO International Student Orientation in September, FFIS holds a picnic for all newly admitted international students and homestay families. The picnic is viewed as a "typical American event," with hot dogs, watermelon, volleyball, and lots of fun. This annual picnic is a great way to relax and to get to know other UO international students and FFIS members. The 2006 Welcome Picnic will be held on September 17 from 12pm - 3pm at Armitage State Park.

Share Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is a unique American holiday to share with international students. FFIS members sign up to host international students for Thanksgiving dinner, and some even offer to host international students in their homes for 2 or 3 days. Students appreciate the hospitality, good food, and the opportunity to make new friends.

Asian Celebration
Every February, FFIS has a booth at the annual Asian Celebration held at the Lane County Fairgrounds. The booth helps FFIS reach new members and promote its friendship programs. UO international students involved with the International Cultural Service Program also volunteer by sharing their culture and experiences with booth visitors.
