Departure Guidelines
If you are leaving the UO and the United States, temporarily or permanently, please read below and follow the guidelines to determine if you must complete the F-1 departure form.
You do NOT need to complete a departure form for:
- Graduation (Click here for more information.)
- Completion of a certificate program
- Transfer to a different academic institution (see Transfer OUT form)
- Summer vacation travel
- Alternate vacation term travel (see RCL form for approval for vacation term in fall, winter or spring)
You MUST complete a departure form and meet with an international student advisor if you plan to leave the university before the end of your academic program for the following reasons:
- Participating in an approved study abroad program
- Doing graduate research overseas
- Being academically disqualified
- Withdrawing from the university
- Returning to your home country to fulfill military or other service
- Taking a term off (not registering for courses) outside of the U.S.
Failure to complete a departure form could result in negatively impacting your SEVIS immigration record and future difficulty when traveling to the U.S.
