IA Announcements: fall term, 2006

Coffee Hour, Hosted by the ISA

Every Friday, 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM

The International Student Association (ISA) hosts coffee hour every Friday afternoon from 4-6pm in the International Resource Center (IRC), EMU, 2nd floor.

Keep your address updated

Where are you living? We need to know and so does the U.S. Government.

Students on F-1 and J-1 visas:

All international students at the UO, even those on Optional Practical Training, are required to keep their addresses updated in Duckweb. IA uses addresses from Duckweb to update SEVIS (Student & Exchange Visitor Information System) records with the U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) and also to contact international students and scholars.

Scholars on H and TN visas, and Permanent Residents:

All international scholars on H, and TN visas as well as Permanent Residents are required by law to keep their addresses updated with the U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS). If you change your address, you must fill out the AR-11 (change of address) form and mail it to USCIS within 10 days of moving. Failing to report your change of address may jeopardize your legal immigration status. Questions? Email IA.

UO E-mail Account

Always check your UO e-mail account

IA uses UO email addresses to contact international students and scholars about important announcements and events. Please be sure to always check your e-mail.

Friendship Foundation seeking new students!

Make friends & build language skills

The Friendship Foundation for International Students (FFIS) are volunteers in the Eugene-Springfield community who enjoy meeting international students, spouses and scholars at the UO. Conversation Friend volunteers will meet with you for one hour each week so you can practice your English conversation. International Friend volunteers will invite you to do things with them and their family and friends occasionally throughout the year. To request a Conversation or International Friend, go to the FFIS website and scroll down to the online request forms. You will be contacted within a couple of weeks if a volunteer has been matched up with you.

Study Abroad...Again!

all year

UO international students are welcome to apply for approved UO overseas study programs. The UO runs over 110 programs in more than 70 countries, and most programs are fully open to international students. If you have questions about whether a particular program is open to international students, you may direct them to the program coordinator. International Affairs provides advising and information about UO overseas programs. You may learn about the programs offered and find downloadable brochures (which include information about eligibility requirements), cost sheets, and applications at the Overseas Study Programs website, http://studyabroad.uoregon.edu. For an advising appointment, please call (541) 346-3207 between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, weekdays.

SCHEDULING APPOINTMENTS WITH INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ADVISERS

International Affairs, welcomes any questions you might have.  If you would like to meet with an International Student Adviser, please call the office at 346-3206 to schedule an appointment.  Appointment times are from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.  When scheduling appointments, please be sure to use your legal name and provide your student ID number.

Requesting Documents from International Affairs (IA)?

Need a travel signature? Applying for OPT? Requesting a social security letter? Don't forget to bring your current immigration document (I-20 or DS-2019) and your unofficial Duckweb transcript with your name and ID on the transcript. If you are a new student this term, bring your Duckweb class schedule instead of your transcript. Are you a GTF? You will also need to bring your current GTF contract.

We cannot process your request without these documents. And remember, most requests take 7 days so PLAN AHEAD! Please contact our office if you have any questions. Thanks!

When picking up your documents, please be prepared to show your UO ID card for identification purposes. Following these guidelines will help us process your request in an efficient and timely manner. Thank you for your help!

Questions? E-mail IA at oip@uoregon.edu.

Departure Guidelines

If you are leaving the U.S. and/or the university temporarily or permanently, please read below and follow the guidelines to determine if you must complete the F-1 departure form.

You do NOT need to complete a departure form for:

* Graduation (Click here for more information.)
* Completion of a certificate program
* Transfer to a different academic institution (see Transfer OUT form)
* Summer vacation travel
* Alternate vacation term travel (see RCL form for approval for vacation term in fall, winter or spring)

You MUST complete a departure form AND meet with an international student advisor if you plan to leave the university before the end of your academic program for the following reasons:

* Participating in an approved study abroad program
* Doing graduate research overseas
* Being academically disqualified
* Withdrawing from the university
* Returning to your home country to fulfill military or other service
* Taking a term off (not registering for courses) outside of the U.S.
Failure to complete a departure form could result in negatively impacting your SEVIS immigration record and future difficulty when traveling to the U.S.

Are you planning to travel?

Plan ahead and request your travel signature from IA well in advance of your travel dates. Bring your Duckweb transcript and original I-20 or DS-2019 to IA and complete a request form for a travel signature. To save time, download an I-20 or DS2019 request form (fillable pdf - click below) and bring it with you. If you will travel with dependents, be sure to request a signature on each dependent's I-20 or DS-2019. Travel signatures will be completed and ready to pick up in 3-5 days. Be sure to check visa requirements and travel tips as you plan your travel.
